Posing in a porn shoot is much less damaging to your health than smoking is. If I had to choose between sending kids to either a teacher who smokes, or one that's done a porn shoot, I'd send them to the best role model of the two – the porno guy. Not to mention the fact that people who have done porn will be much more secretive about it than people who smoke.

I read this story yesterday as well as all the comments and spent some time thinking about how I felt about it. I’m bothered that some of you think that it is ok for a teacher to be found in this position. I have an 11 year old daughter and would be horrified if her teacher were to be found naked on the internet. My daughter needsto have positive role models and that he is not. This has nothing to do with the picture being on a gay website (although I suspect some will have a field day just because of that), there is now a whole school thinking that this is what being gay is all about. It’s about having a huge responsibility to those children – he's blown it. The whole story makes me uncomfortable.

Sister Mary Clarence – 37. Good question… well he might inspire them to exercise more and get 6 pack abs, though whether that's a good thing in itself is a moot point.
In any event he doesn't define himself as a gay man, he's not even "gay for pay" as far as I can see. His photoshoot was a solo effort. Whether anyone else thinks he's gay has no bearing on the facts.

We've also skirted round the issue of positive role models here.

Its a grammar scholl so I assume some of the kids would have been as young as 11 years old, moving into teenage years learning about their sexuality and seeking positive role models top learn from.

How many of them (gay and straight) looked up to the fit, good looking PE teacher.

What sort of associations to many kids at the school now have gay men, when potwentially this is the first 'identified' gay man some of them may have encountered?

What sort of associations do the gay kids learn from him in relation to growing up gay?

What sort of a role model does he become for any of the kids looking for a male role model to admire and respect?

This is exactly what Kinsey was talking about. This is what homosexual activity looks like, in or out of a loving relationship, and I dare say these flicks have kept the home fires burning for countless gay couples, as well as gay men who, for one reason or another, find themselves alone but with normal sexual appetites, and who have mastered the art of sexual self-gratification with or without visual and/or audio stimulation.

However, and to be fair, I must admit that I did enter this site and thoroughly enjoyed getting off without having to admit that I am an adult.

As for discipline and respect, they have long since disappeared from the classroom if you ask me, and it had, and continues to have, nothing to do with the teacher's personal life.

Sexually explicit material of any kind on the Internet is a contemporary issue that needs to be kicked around before pouncing on it with the vestiges of victorian sexual morality or theology, or what have you.

I don't pretend to have all the answers, and I'll spare you the argument that the blame falls on the parents. This is an issue that needs a whole lot of professiional, scientific poking around because, even in a controlled environment, the unknown factors must be systematically explored to arrive at a workable theory, and we can do without the susperstitions which need to judge normal and highly pleasurable human sexual behavior, like homophobes have been and continue to be inclined to do.

Not that this is surprising in a country clever enough to issue the Wolfenden Reort in the late 60's, but which has yet to come to terms with the Equakity Bill.

Then there's the argument that this young man, who has been entertaining, if that is the proper word, the gay community, needs our support at a time like this.

While the schoolkids need to be severely reprimanded (being expelled comes to mind), Handley deserves the best therapy the British government, who allowed him to be publicly discredited,
can afford.

Of course the UK is notorious for its disregard of psychological and/or psychiatric counselling with the utmost of contempt because so many still believe, after Hiroshima, that we are the masters of our own destinies.

The lack of professional counselling has been regularly obvious on the threads of PinkNews for some time, and unfortunately troubled individuals will continue to spill their guts out until some kind member of their family will be forced to call a team of men wearing white jackets, and add yet another skelton in the proverbial closet of one's family history.

Since every rant must come to an end, I am reminded of the meticulous and absolutely ridiculous obstacles intentionally designed to prevent Canadian gay bookshops, ('Little Sisters' in Vancouver), from importing sexually educational and entertaining material for the Canadian Pink Market ($$$$) from the USA.

It's like listening to a Mahler symphony: it's fascinating, sometimes hypnotic and sometimes confusing. Life is like that.
We're here; we're queer; get used to it!

Finally, as a 100% gay man myself, I would be more concerned with the well-being of the model than the impact of this material on juvenile delinquents.

I think this is a case where the kids (and their parents) should be in the hotseat, so to speak, not the teacher. If the parents do not want their kids watching porn, then have a "nanny" filter put on the computer. If the teacher is not showing paedophilic tendencies, then leave him alone. It might not have been the best judgement call but it shouldn't mean the loss of his job.

As someone else said, the 'upside' to this would be a massive boost to his porn 'career'….. and please, lets not hear all the old cliches of models being 'exploited'… Every time I arrive at work, my employer is 'exploiting' me in that case. Providing the participants are adults, over 18, no one is being exploited.. They are choosing to do it freely as adults, for wages, signing contracts and model-release forms. Well, can see both sides of the argument here… on the one hand it's very difficult to maintain authority in the classroom when your porno shoot is all over the net and the kids have stumbled on it (has someone got a crush on the PE teacher?
Wouldn't be the first time that's happened). He's a bit naive if he thinks this wouldn't go round the schoolyard like a plague of nits.
I remember at my secondary school one art teacher got a bit too happy about the success of his A-level set and celebrated by getting drunk and stripping off in a public toilet (unsure if that's all he did there, we didn't get all the juicy specifics).
He mysteriously never came back after the summer break and his name was eradicated from the school records like some bizarre Stalinist purge, but the kids got to hear about it anyhow through the salacious gossip grapevine.
That said, whether you can legitimately sack this guy for a legal activity done in his own time is a bit of a moot point. Perhaps like you say it's a matter for contract terms and conditions and employment tribunals.
At least he should know if he wants to return to his porn career this is a pretty big calling card! The Gym instructor porno cliche practically writes itself…
